Bio - Get to Know the Candidate

Norman Miller is married to Barbara and has lived in Cairns for over 50 years. His Aboriginal name is Munganbana which means Mountain Water in the Jirrbal language, one of his tribes. He is also of the Wadjanbarra Yidinji and Bar-Barrum tribes of the Atherton Tablelands, north Queensland.

Norman is an Aboriginal artist and businessman with an artist-owned gallery, the Munganbana Reef and Rainforest Aboriginal Art Gallery, which has operated in Cairns for nearly 30 years. His artwork has been exhibited overseas including in Hamburg Germany.


He received an international book award for his book “Reef and Rainforest: An Aboriginal Voice Through Art and Story” in 2016. The Qld’s Who’s Who Book entered his name in 2008.

Norman has done a lot of community work over the years including mentoring youth in school programs, in his art gallery, and working with youth in trouble with the law helping them redirect their lives.


He is a pastor and conference host and is a sought-after speaker in Australia and overseas, speaking in the USA, UK, Canada, NZ, the Pacific Islands, Israel, Africa, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Norman is cofounder of the Centre for International Reconciliation and Peace and Indigenous Friends of Israel International.
